Hangnails

I’m sure all of you have had a hangnail before. Unless you’ve got perfectly moisturized hands. If you haven’t had a hangnail, then I HATE YOU.

Just kidding. Probably. Anyway, if you’re not sure what I’m talking about, a hangnail is that little piece of skin sticking out on the side of your nail.

Now, if you’re like me, your first thought is, “Hm I have a little piece of torn skin. I DO NOT LIKE IT. It’s all…sticking out and stuff. IT MUST BE ELIMINATED.” But you’re probably not like me, because I’m weird. However, you might agree that your first reaction to a hangnail is to rip it out.

Let’s take a moment to talk about how ripping out a hangnail is probably the worst decision you can make in your life. It’s such a tiny piece of skin and it looks like it can just be pulled out seamlessly with no consequences. But instead of no consequences, you get PAINFUL consequences.

The amount of pain caused by ripping it out is so disproportionate. I ripped one out the other day and the entire area on that side of my fingertip hurt at the slightest contact. Just from ripping off a tiny piece of skin! It is awful! And cruel! It’s like the hangnail is trying to trick you. “Oh look at me, I’m just a little hangnail. I’m soo innocuous. I bet you can’t rip me out!” And then DISASTER.

If you ever learn anything from my blog, let it be that you NEVER rip out hangnails. Just cut them and moisturize your hands. Avoid the horrible pain and suffering. HEED MY WORDS.
